The Inn is located in one of many historic buildings that make up the picturesque town of San Anselmo. The building was constructed in 1908 and was physically moved to the present location in 1925. A boarding house or hotel has operated in it continuously since 1926.
San Anselmo’s history is closely tied to its prominence as a junction on the North Coast Pacific Railroad (later the Northwestern Pacific). The railroad, completed in 1875, and our temperate climate drew visitors from San Francisco for a sunny break from summertime fog. The town began to grow and develop when the San Francisco Theological Seminary moved to the area in 1892; the Seminary’s buildings are architecturally and historically significant and are town landmarks. San Anselmo was incorporated in 1907 after an influx of refugees from the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire built permanent homes.
The town is now home to small businesses of every kind. The small-town feel is ever-present: strolling through town you’ll find independent book sellers, clothing boutiques, novelties, great food, and friendly people.
Our closest commercial airports are San Francisco International (SFO), Oakland International (OAK), and now also Santa Rosa (STS) in Sonoma County, all three about 1 hour by car from our hotel. GNOSS Field in Novato (DVO), is the closest general aviation airport.
Our Payment - Cancellation Policy:
PAYMENT and CANCELLATION POLICY
We charge one night deposit at time of reservation. If any balance is due, it will be automatically charged to the credit card 7 days prior arrival. If the arrival date is less then 7 days from date of reservation, we charge the full amount.
We will refund the deposit less a $ 50.00 cancellation processing fee per room if you cancel before by 3 pm (Pacific Time) 7 days prior arrival.
We apply special payment and cancellation policies for reservations for Memorial - July 4th - Labor - Thanksgiving - Christmas - New Year's Eve week-ends. Please read carefully:
We charge the full amount of the reservation at time of booking.
We will refund the deposit (Less cancellation processing fee of $ 100.00) if cancelled before 3 pm (Pacific Time) 14 days prior arrival
Thanksgiving Reservations: If booked after October 31st, full payment at time of reservation and NO refund
Christmas Reservations: If Booked After November 30th, full payment at time of reservation and NO Refund
Parking: Effective July 2025: $ 10.00 per car per night

San Anselmo Inn reserves the right to move an existing reservation to a comparable or better room type prior to arrival.
Pet Policy
We do not allow pets in our hotel unless they are legally certified service animals and specifically assigned to one of the guests. Please provide the card / certificate at time of booking, we reserve the right to verify the credentials of such certificate before accepting your reservation. We will assign you one of our rooms reserved for pets (ground floor). We will charge an extra fee of $ 100.00 for extra cleaning. If you bring a pet into the hotel without notifying us in the advance, even if it is a service animal, we will charge you a fee of $ 250.00 for deep cleaning; we also reserve the right to evict you (if it is not a service animal) or to move you to one of our rooms reserved for service animals (if available).
